Collection of Miller's manuscripts, research notes, and handmade books about Sioux Indian legends and botany. Collection includes research notes and manuscript of a book entitled INDIAN VOCABULARIES FROM MANY IMPORTANT TRIBES OF THE UNITED STATES AND CANADA, with translations of Indian languages, and illustrated with drawings and postcards. Notes on linguistics include a version of an English-Lakota dictionary. Miller's illustrated handmade books primarily on Indian legends include LEGEND OF RATTLESNAKE BUTTE, from South Dakota; THE SPIRIT OF TURTLE HEAD KNOLL, from Iowa, 1935; THE PROPHETESS; INDIAN CALENDARS TOLD BY THE TWELVE MOONS; ON THE ROAD TO THE RED LAKE COUNTRY; and a manuscript about Indian fables of the Omaha, Arikara, Cheyenne, and other tribes. He also hand copied Dakota legends and fables such as LEGEND OF MEDICINE BUTTE and LEGEND OF THUNDER BUTTE. Also, extensive research notes and illustrated manuscripts entitled KNOTS OF THE RANGE, ca.1945; notes and original scale drawings of topography of Arikara lands, including illustrations of the land during the time of Lewis and Clark expedition in 1804; drawings depicting history of the Arikara; other hand drawings of leaves, trees, animals, and Indian artifacts; and his notes and illustrations of plants. In addition, manuscript on his work teaching among the Sioux in Bull Head, South Dakota.
